POPCOP15: Gauging Public Opinion at Copenhagen

Students from Ithaca College want to know your opinion at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Representatives in Copenhagen, December 7-19, will host a daily poll based on the day’s discussions.

This public opinion poll, intended to reach a minimum of one million votes daily, will gauge the opinions of the global community throughout the convention.

Working with an interdisciplinary research team from Pennsylvania’s Dickinson College, Ithaca students created a social media and public polling service called the “POPCOP15,” or the Public Opinion Polls of the COP15.

For each day of the COP15, students will post a question on climate change to the public by blogging, tweeting, e-mailing and gathering in-person responses. The results can be viewed online and in a public exhibit space at the Bella Center.

Additionally, the poll will help to educate the public on climate change and global perspectives. As we think about Earth Day 2010, Ithaca’s efforts encourage people all across the world to start living more environmentally-conscious lives.
