Afghanistan

Afghanistan is located in Southern Asia, north and west of Pakistan, east of Iran. This nation’s terrain is mostly rugged mountains and has plains in the north and southwest. The weather is arid to semiarid and cold in the winters and hot in the summers. Some of the environmental issues Afghanistan faces are limited natural fresh water resources, overgrazing, and soil degradation. There are a variety of diseases caused by the environment, including typhoid fever, malaria, and hepatitis A.

Because the country is so underdeveloped, it has one of the lowest carbon dioxide emissions per capita in the world, with 0.2 metric tons per capita in 1990 falling to negligible levels in 1997, and in 2007 was estimated to be 0.03 metric tons per capita, with only Chad and Somalia recording lower levels.
