Earth Day On Campus

Earth Day on Campus 2009 will turn a new page on the environmental movement. Earth Day 2009 is the beginning of a return to environmental stewardship. It will mark the start of our Green Generation™ Campaign, which will culminate in our 40th anniversary in 2010.

Following in the footsteps of the great social movements of the past, over 1500 college campuses will be at the forefront of the Green Generation CAMPAIGN during Earth Day 2009. And there has never been a better time to act. In December, climate negotiators from all around the world will gather in Copenhagen to map out the future of our planet by drafting a new agreement to replace Kyoto. Earth Day Network is asking everyone to rally behind a loud and clear “No Coal” message, and we are encouraging campuses to plan their Earth Day 2009 events around the negative impacts of coal and alternatives to it. Here are some ideas for you!

Get you community to JOIN THE GREEN GENERATION™!

Anything you do for Earth Day on Campus 2009 should involve asking people to join you in the Green Generation™! Spread the Green Generation™ Manifesto around your campus and ask your local leaders, professors, and community to sign it with you. For those of you in the US, GET YOUR REPRESENTATIVE AND SENATORS TO JOIN THE GREEN GENERATION™ while they are in your district for their spring recess from April 6 – 19!

No such thing as clean coalMAKE THE NO COAL CALL!

In many countries, even if a no-coal provision WERE included in the Copenhagen agreement, the national parliament MUST still ratify it! This Earth Day is the Green Generation™’s opportunity to influence our lawmakers and persuade them that our global addiction to coal must end. Find out more.

EDUCATE YOUR CAMPUS

Make Earth Day your chance to inform your campus on the immediate danger that coal poses to the environment and society in general. In these unique times, we must teach others that NOW is our opportunity to move our social, economic, and political systems away from coal and towards clean, RENEWABLE energy Find out how to do it.
