Earthday 2007 International Events and Accomplishments
In 2007, EDN’s international members organized 10,000 Earth Day events outside the United States, disseminating information on a wide variety of environmental challenges, and demonstrating the power of Earth Day to rally millions of people behind our environmental welfare. Of those 10,000,EDN directly collaborated on events in Togo, Russia, Ghana, Somalia, and China.
With our partner in Togo, Jeunes Volontaires pour l’Environnement, EDN spent a week teaching thousands of people throughout the country about climate change. In Russia, Viola used our support to green a dozen schools. Another NGO, MOPGEL, used the grant we provided to teach the impoverished inhabitants of Buduburam Refugee camp in Ghana about hygiene, sanitation, and water, and to clean the camp. In Somalia, the Somali Human Rights Organization planted 500 trees in its war-torn country to raise awareness of the connection between deforestation, water poverty, and violent conflict. In China, Global Village Beijing conducted a waste awareness and reduction campaign with our support.
